Have you suffered a trauma in your past that still haunts you today, leaving you feeling helpless and out of control? You may have a form of anxiety called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Psychological trauma is a particular kind of stress that overwhelms our ability to cope and prevents us from moving on in life.
It may be caused by extreme one-time events like an auto accident or a mugging, or by a past history of abuse or neglect.
PTSD can stir up a wide range of symptoms: Panic attacks or phobias may prevent you from doing the things you love. You may be plagued by obsessive behaviors or thoughts, anxiety, or hyper-vigilance. Sleep disturbances or nightmares may leave you exhausted. Or you may find yourself spacing out—dissociating. These symptoms may worsen when something in present-time somehow reminds you of a trauma in the past.

I have helped many clients suffering from PTSD. I approach therapy for PTSD using a variety of approaches including EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy which have been shown to be particularly effective in processing these old memories and helping people develop healthy ways to cope.
