I am very excited to announce that I am expanding my psychotherapy practice! In addition to seeing clients in San Francisco, I will now also be seeing clients in the South Berkeley neighborhood of Elmwood on Mondays. The new office is centrally located near the intersection of Ashby and Telegraph Avenue. Its in a quiet, lovely residential neighborhood. The office itself is in a nice, professional building that is handicapped accessible and includes a great community of therapists. I am looking forward to seeing clients in the East Bay, including Berkeley, and Oakland.
My practice continues to have two major focuses: (1) Helping people who are struggling with issues of anxiety, stress, and PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder). (2) Helping couples who are having problems communicating and understanding each other.
When working with anxiety and PTSD I make use of mindfulness based therapies (such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Both of these approaches have been empirically validated as effective treatments for these issues. With couples I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy as developed by Sue Johnson. This approach helps couples to recognize and step out of the negative and destructive cycles they can get caught in with their partner and learn to connect with their partner in a deeper, more engaged way.
While I enjoy working with everyone, I have a special interest in serving the LGBT community. As a gay therapist, I’ve been been providing psychotherapy to LGBT individuals and couples for over a fifteen years. I look forward to bringing this experience to the East Bay. Having a therapist who understands and empathizes with your specific issues and experiences can make all the difference
